The flavour of those incredible toasted sunflower seeds bites is just so incredible, nutty, deep, rich, they make a perfect snack on the go! Or, wonderful with the afternoon tea. Because sunflower seeds are full of goodness, they may help with lowering blood pressure, as they are rich in magnesium, vitamin E and linoleic fatty acids. They are gluten-free, can be made without refined sugar! You can experiment with different type of sugars or skip them totally, or perhaps add a couple of dates to the mixture. One of my favourites things to make as they require no baking can be done in under 15 minutes, and, the best thing- they keep in the fridge for few weeks!
I don’t really have a sweet tooth, a piece of dark chocolate or prunes will usually fix my sweet desires, but I do struggle when I am on the go. Hiking, cycling or simply running errands all day make me want something sweet. I always know the sweet monster is coming when I suddenly slow down by the corner shop and look with envy at all pretty Reese’s bars…So, these toasted sunflower bites hit all the spots. They are not too sweet, you can adjust the levels to your liking, they taste nutty and they are crunchy and sticky. Exactly what taste buds love the best.

I love playing with food, so I prefer savoury recipes, as they allow for so much more flexibility. You do not need exact quantities and you can almost throw away measuring cups. So, one day I felt that I need more than just a toasted sunflower seeds bites, something more, but I wasn’t quite sure what…Then my stomach sent an instant message to the brain…my most common cravings, Reese’s cupcakes…Oh yes, that was it! So why not making little sandwiches from those toasted sunflower seeds? Spread some peanut butter over, and dip in melted dark chocolate…Now, you can keep them in a freezer and get out any time you need this special fix. Trust me, this little extra time spent was really worth it.
